Social Programme

Things to do include:

  • View Lorn & Islands Hospital. New CT Teleradiology Suite. 5.30-6.30pm, Friday 1st June.

  • Visit Dunstaffnage Castle at the SRS venue.

  • Boat trips and fishing trips from the North pier and Esplanade. See the seals and wildlife around nearby Islands.

  • Oban Distillery. Guided tour available, Saturday 3.00 - 4.00pm.

  • GOLF.
    Glencruitten 18 hole course. Scenic but hilly. Not for the weak hearted £16.
    Balvicar 9 hole course. On Seil Island 14 miles S of Oban. New, flat course with magnificent views over the bay. £6 per day.

  • GARDENS
    Ardmaddy. Past Kilninver on road to Seil Island and Easdale.
    An Cala, Ellenabeich, Seil Island.
    Arduaine. 20 miles S of Oban. £2.50. Guide available.

  • The Sealife Centre, Barcaldine. 10 miles N of Oban. Great for children and adults.

  • Barcaldine Castle. 8 miles N of Oban. Secret passages, Haunted by the Blue lady. Teas & Mrs. Campbell's homebaked cakes.

  • Visit Ellenabeich on Seil Island. A quaint little village with magnificent views to Mull, Garvellachs and Scarba. Visit The Heritage Centre, The history of the Slate Islands then a short 5min. ferry trip to the unique Easdale Island and the award winning Folk Museum.

  • Sea.fari Adventures, also at Easdale. High-speed safe RIB craft take you to close encounters with unique sealife.

  • Boat trip to Mull, steam train to Torosay Castle, tour

  • Do your own thing in and around Oban

  • From Glasgow
    A82 North to Tyndrum, A85 West to Connel, Dunbeg/Dunstaffnage, Oban
  • From Edinburgh
    M9 to Stirling, A84 Lochearnhead, A85 West as above
  • From Aberdeen
    A90 South to Perth, A85 West as above
  • From Inverness/Fort William
    A82 South to Ballachulish, A828 to Connel, Dunbeg/Dunstaffnage, Oban

Or…

  • Oban railway station is in the middle of Oban itself, approximately 3 miles from Dunstaffnage.
  • You could also sail/motor cruise to Dunstaffnage Bay where marina berthing is available at the heart of the S.R.S. venue.
  • For those with private light aircraft, Connel Airport is only 3 miles from Dunstaffnage.
  • For those with interplanetary space cruisers, you'll just have to make your own arrangements.
