Progressive right upper lobe collapse

The following three images show the progressive collapse of the right upper lobe over a period of months. Note the background of calcified granulomata in the right lung parenchyma, and the pleural calcification on the left, the result of previous pulmonary tuberculosis and empyema.

The first film shows no evidence of collapse. On the second (the example used earlier in the tutorial) there is obvious opacification and volume loss in the upper lobe. On the final film the right upper lobe is completely collapsed, and is only visible as a thin paratracheal shadow, much less obvious. However, the progressive upward movement of the lower lobe calcification, and loss of the upper lobe calcifications illustrate the way in which the lower lobe has overinflated to fill the gap.
