Practice examination papers on line
Note the higher numbers are the most recent papers to be added.
Want to send in your own questions? See below.
The papers contain 10 questions each. Each stem has five parts, and each part may be true or false. The questions are negatively marked (i.e. 1 for correct, -1 for incorrect, 0 for answering Don't Know), so if you don't want to guess, click D for Don't Know.
You can change your response as often as you like until you Mark the question. The Explain option is only available once you have marked the question. Your score will appear in the box bottom left.
The questions appear as below (this one doesn't work):
There is an optional timer, which can be started on loading the page. It can also be started from the page itself. It warns you with 5 minutes to go, and again when time is up, but as this isn't the real thing, it is not enforced. Only your conscience will know. The time left is displayed in the box at the top of the page, but is also always visible in the status window of your browser, if it has one (that little line of text at bottom left of the browser window, usually).
At the bottom of the paper is a Total Score button which can be used as well as or instead of the Mark button for each stem - it marks the entire paper, then gives you your total score and percentage score.
You will be offered the chance to see how you compare with others. If you click Yes your marks will be included (anonymously) in our database, and in return you will be given the mean and SD of all the previous marks. So maybe that 30% wasn't so bad, when everyone else got 10%...
Tips for MCQ exams
I found a few pages while seaching for clues on how to write an MCQ engine for the site. They provide tips on how to cope with MCQ exams, and strategies for, ahem, guessing. They are here if you are interested. I make no promises...
Submit your own MCQ questions
Fancy providing some MCQ questions of your own? Fill in the submission form, include explanations for those not as smart as you (like me, for one), and include your name or e-mail address if you wish to be famous. If everyone submits just one MCQ question, this will become a useful tool, but the more the merrier. Go on, do it now.
