Case 39

Calcified mediastinal lymph nodes

A routine chest film

This chest film was obtained as part of a routine medical examination.

Findings

The film shows extensive abnormal shadowing in the right hilar and paratracheal region which is of increased density consistent with calcified lymph nodes.

A: PA CXR - 22kb

Diagnosis

Calcified mediastinal lymph nodes, secondary to lymphoma

Discussion

This finding was incidental, but on questioning the patient he admitted to having had radiotherapy to the chest for Hodgkin's lymphoma several years earlier. There had been no recurrence.
